The Relay Rumor

We just released the first edition of "The Relay Rumor", which is the official newsletter of the Jessamine County Relay For Life. Our plans are to have one each month to keep teams, sponsors, and our community up-to-date in our Relay For Life planning. This month's newsletter includes information about team registration and team captain meetings, Luminaria sales, and a recap of the Kickoff.

If you have a story about your team or a fundraiser that you want to advertise in the newsletter, please contact us so that we can provide that information to our Relay supporters. The next newsletter is planned for release in mid-March. If you would like for something to be included, please email the information to alissafsmith@gmail.com by March 10th.

You can find all editions of the newsletter at www.relayforlife.org/jessamine under the "Events News & Fundraisers" tab on the left hand side of the page.

Happy Reading!

KIckoff a Huge Success!

Last Friday, Jessamine County held their annual Kickoff event for Relay for Life. We had a great turn out of over 50 people. This year's Kickoff also included the 1st ever Relay Chili Cook off. The winner was a white bean chili made by Jeff Smothers. Congratulations Jeff!
We were also very fortunate to have Mindy Jackson, owner of Jessamine School of Classical Dance, speak to our group about her battle with thyroid cancer. Another special guest we had on hand was our 2011 Honorary Chair, Ms. MaKayla Correll. MaKayla was diagnosed three years ago with gliobastoma multiforme. She now is eleven years and we are so excited to have her Grand Marshal our Relay for Life this year.
Other activities included honoring survivors, a mini luminaria ceremony, and 2011 Relay announcements including the theme for this year, "Carnival for a Cure" and the Team Captain meeting dates. First team captain meeting will be February 24th at 6:30 pm at Central Bank on Main.

It's Almost Kickoff Time!

Last night, the Relay planning committee met to finalize details for the Kickoff on this Friday. We have several great activities planned including recognizing our community survivors, a mini luminaria ceremony, and lots of door prizes. We will also have a chili cook off so we hope that each team will bring a pot of their famous recipe chili.

The Kickoff will also symbolize the start of the Relay season in our community. Teams should start organizing and making plans for fundraising activities. Every dollar raised through our Relay for Life goes to fight cancer. Whether it is to find a new drug to help alleviate the pain and suffering cause by cancer, or maybe it is to provide services to cancer patients. And we all have hope that one day, the dollar that we raise will go to finding the cure for cancer. Wouldn't that be amazing! So as we prepare to Kickoff the Relay season, keep in mind that the money you raise will be put to very good use!
